Cephalexin is a medicine used to treat infections caused by germs sensitive to cefalexin. These infections are located in the superior and inferior respiratory channels, genital channels, skin area and soft tissues as well as bone tissue.
Cephalexin is not a first choice antibiotic for treating infections with neisseria gonorrhea. In case of allergy to penicillin or cephalosporins, there are other antibiotics recommended. Cephalexin is not recommended neither in the case of meningitis, which is caused by sensitive germs. Those with renal insufficiency should adapt the dosage. One capsule of this medicine contains cefalexin under the form of cefalexin monohydrate as well as corn starch, magnesium stearate. In case of vomiting or diarrhea, it is indicated the parenteral administration. If the diarrhea prolongs, the doctor may assume that the patient may suffer from pseudo membranous colitis because of the treatment and this must be interrupted. Using the medicine for a long time may lead to the incubation of resistant germs.
When it comes to pregnancy, it is recommend to avoid administer Cephalexin in the first trimester of pregnancy. The excretion of this medicine into the maternal milk is made in small quantities. Although the effects upon the infant are still unknown, it is recommended to avoid taking the medicine during breastfeeding period. After four hours of taking the medicine, it was found in the mother’s milk at a level of 4mg/ml; after eight hours, there was no more trace of Cephalexin.
If the user encounters with an allergy reaction, he/she must stop the treatment with Cephalexin. If a person uses in incorrect manner cephalosporins, as in the case of other antibiotics, this can lead to the selection of resistant bacteria.
On the market, you can find cheap Cephalexin. If the user is an adult, he/she must take 1-2 grams/day divided into 3 sets in case of a light infection; otherwise, if infected badly, the dosage is 4 grams/day. The posology recommends 250mg every 6 hours. The doctors prescribe 500mg every 12 hours in case of recent infections and with no complications in the urinary tract area, skin infections, soft tissues areas, as well as in the case of pharyngitis and tonsillitis.
For children, the parents should buy Cephalexin and give them 25-50 mg/kg/day, divided into several sets. The dosage can be doubled in case of severe infections or those caused by less sensitive germs. The daily dosage in case of current infections and with no complications in the urinary tract area, skin and soft tissues areas, as well as in the case of pharyngitis and tonsillitis, should be fractionated in 2 equal sets, administered every 12 hours. Clinical studies have shown that the treatment for medium otitis requires a daily dosage of 75-100mg/kg, divided into 4 sets.
There are also some side effects encountered to patients who use Cephalexin. Those reactions include allergy symptoms – in case those people who are allergic to penicillin – like rash and epidermal eruption. Also, reactions like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea have been signaled, along with dizziness, fatigue, headaches which disappear after interrupting the treatment.
